I was young when I discovered science fiction. I had been a voracious reader ever since I could pick up a book. I was in awe of authors; the process of writing a novel seemed daunting. Over time, the curiosity about whether I could actually write, and the process of writing stayed with me.
The origin of this novel lay in a conversation I had with a work colleague. Many years ago, sitting in a restaurant in Sydney, Australia. We were both interested in science fiction, and bounced ideas off each other for fun. One idea sowed the seeds for this book. I was curious if I could actually write a sci-fi novel. I began to slowly piece together the story.
The book started well. I was writing after work and weekends, when I had time. Like all projects, it ran into difficulties. I moved to three countries, and five different places to live. The book moved with me. I lost my laptop; another broke, thankfully I had a backup. Initially, what I envisaged would be a relatively quick and easy process, turned into a lengthy project. I lost interest, then returned to the book, I hit the inevitable writers block. A number of years later I found time, and finally managed get the book finished. Thank you for taking the time to read it. I hope you enjoy the story.

In the blistering heat of an Arizona junkyard, where the sun scorches the earth and forgotten machines rust in silence, three unlikely souls stumble upon a relic of a bygone era: a massive, derelict space heavy-haul cargo ship. Leading the group is a retired military lieutenant, a man hardened by duty but searching for purpose. By his side are two ship engineers—each with their own baggage. One is a fugitive from justice, running from a past he can't outfly, and the other is a man with unconventional sexual preferences, whose quirks are as much a part of him as his technical genius. Together, they breathe life into the ancient vessel, reigniting its thunderous engines against all odds.
Their ship, Lou-Lou, is a patchwork behemoth that looks like it was hammered together from scrap metal and sheer willpower. Deafeningly loud during take-off and landing, she's a hazard to eardrums and a headache to anyone who dares get too close. Yet, beneath her rough exterior lies a heart of gold—a ship that cares for her crew as fiercely as they care for her.
With a ragtag crew hastily assembled and Lou-Lou as their unlikely flagship, they plunge into the perilous world of deep-space cargo hauling. Their missions take them to the farthest reaches of the galaxy, where they cross paths with eccentric characters, issues with border patrols, and uncover a young stowaway who adds both chaos and heart to their journey. But their greatest challenge comes in the form of a dangerous, volatile alien cargo that threatens to unravel everything they've built.
Lou-Lou is more than just a ship; she's a symbol of resilience, a testament to the idea that even the most broken things can find redemption among the stars. This is a tale of adventure, camaraderie, and the unbreakable bond between a crew and their ship—a story where humor, heart, and a touch of madness collide in the vast, unpredictable expanse of space.
Strap in and prepare for liftoff—Lou-Lou and her crew are about to take you on a journey you'll never forget.
