About the author
Mary Beth Brace was born Gladwin, Michigan on a working farm. There was a wide variety of animals to care for: bunnies, cats, dogs, cows, sheep, pigs, horses, and an array of fowl. (Horses were the best!).
She attended Gladwin public schools and so much wanted to attend the Christian school, but her Pa said no. He was going to put her through that public school on his knees, praying.
During her youth she loved the horses and went through the 4-H Horse Program (age 8 to 18) and hung out with her horse crazy girlfriends on the weekends and a huge part of summers.
She learned how to play her brother's guitar in 3rd grade. When her brother got another guitar, he gave her his old one. and then she took it where ever she went. She loved John Denver songs and wore out his song book.
She sang specials in her local church growing up. One Sunday night, as young teen, she got a phone call after church. An elderly lady just called to say she loved the song Mary Beth had written and that God would use her talents for sure someday.
Writing and drawing have always been a passion. She grew up reading The Reader's Digest with her mother. It was her mother that gave her a love of poetry. Her mother had several poems memorized, one being "And what is so rare as a day in June?".
When her first child was born she came across The Writer's Market. She has been hooked on writing children's stories ever since and continues to learn through self study and various courses, classes and conferences.

Cathy's quest to get a horse started when Tonya invited her to summer camp. Paintball was to be their main activity, but in a turn of events, Cathy, saying absolutely no to playing paintball, ended up in the horsemanship activity registration line.
Being around horses was a first for Cathy. She learned to ride quickly. Her horse at camp was a beautiful bay gelding named Monte. Everyone at camp told her she had a gift with horses–especially after the camp horse show event at the end of the week.
Cathy wondered why hadn't she ever been around horses when she was with Tonya? Tonya's family owned a lot of horses. It was their life. Cathy remembered third grade, when her family moved to Gladwin. All her times with Tonya never included being around horses. Tonya talked about horses all the time. Cathy saw the trophies and pictures in Tonya's room, but not one step toward their barn or touching the beloved pony, Molly.
Now, in high school, all of Cathy's friends have horses and she is miserable. Cathy is determined to get a horse of her own. She wanted one just like Monte, but she finds out her parents are totally against her owning a horse. When she tries to ask why, they are not telling.
Will the quest for getting a horse get her in trouble with her parents? Will she be left behind by her horse loving friends? Will she find more than just a search for the right horse?
Cathy's Quest is approximately 64,000 words and a sweet find for teen girls seeking to learn more about horses, and the horse life. Contains Christian elements.
